About this artwork
"Ice Fog" is a painting of transition—mysterious, atmospheric, and tranquil. Like a veil of frozen mist, the colors settle over the surface in subtle shades of blue, gray, and hints of rust. The structures appear weathered, marked by frost, as if time and cold had passed through the painting together.
The use of pigments, resins, and oils in dialogue with natural freezing processes resulted in a work that hovers between the visible and the invisible.… It is a silent statement about transience, concealment—and what remains.
A contemplative work of art for spaces that breathe depth and restraint.

Herwig Port is one of the most versatile painters who makes full use of his craftsmanship. As a young child, he spent a lot of time in his grandfather's studio and was taught oil painting techniques. This enabled him to develop a broad spectrum of painterly expressiveness. Herwig Port creates luminous oil paintings characterized by harmonious coloration. His technique is based on thin, translucent layers of paint that allow the white of the canvas to shine through and their luminosity is reminiscent of church windows. His themes are the beauty of transience, expressed through autumnally colored vine leaves and the play of light in mountain and lake landscapes, which he often depicts in a highly abstract or almost photorealistic manner. In his work, it is important to him to always maintain a childlike curiosity in order to remain creative. This creativity lends his works their special expressiveness.
