About this artwork
2019 / Acrylic and acrylic gouache on stretched canvas. Painted sides.
Contemporary/ semi-abstract style. Inspired by one of the main folktales in Central America. The legend of El Sombreron talks about a dream-like & very small human character that hides behind a huge sombrero, and who plays the guitar to entice beautiful women under his spell.
"Dressed in black from head to toe, with loud boots, and a sombrero that fully covers his face, the Sombreron… wanders through the streets of Guatemala, looking for beautiful woman with big eyes and long hair to later woo them by singing and playing his guitar until they are hypnotized. Then the Sombreron braids their hair and from that moment, the soul of the girl belongs to him."
Well known folktale from Central America. In Guatemala the name is El Sombrerón, but in other countries the character is called Cipitío, is a beloved folk tale despite de little dark aspects of the story.
Main Colors: Red, black, white, yellow, blue, purple
« I create colorful, warm and happy art- just like my homeland. My graphic-design and illustration background allowed me to diversify my style into Illustrative, geometric and expressionist themes. »
