About this artwork
2022 / Acrylic, pigments, yarn, embroidered fabric from a traditional mayan blouse (called güipil) on wood. This piece comes framed and ready to hang.
This mixed media piece, shows lots of textures bright colors. In the center there is a colorful portrait* of a woman surrounded by a yarn braid, the portrait is placed on top of a Guatemalan embroidered textile, like the ones mayan ladies traditionally wear, as an extra detail of color and texture,… it has a removable garland of handmade yarn pompoms. This modern folk piece is a celebration of Latin American colors, crafts and traditions.
Main colors: Green, yellow, orange and blue.

Ilaamen Pelshaw is a Guatemalan painter based in the United States whose work has been featured in solo and group shows nationally. Growing up with a grandfather who was an artist and muralist, Pelshaw became interested in art herself and developed a practice centered around positivity and warmth. Mostly working in acrylic on canvas, her work is always colorful and illustration based, whether through quirky animal portraits or paintings of Latin American culture and crafts.
