About this artwork
This painting was sold to the Omaha Public Library / Nebraska, USA.
2023 / Acrylic on stretched canvas
The theme of the diptych (double panel) painting is communication in different forms, starting from the basics of language, to a set of cans united by a cord, and a vintage telephone. You can see two human-like characters one on each side of the piece, entangled in a conversation with each other. This piece was created for the Omaha Public Library,… Downtown Branch for the phone booths and mini conference rooms location.
The colors are muted and soothing, with the use only of black, white and two tones of tan.
The style of the piece is somewhat geometric and linear.
« I create colorful, warm and happy art- just like my homeland. My graphic-design and illustration background allowed me to diversify my style into Illustrative, geometric and expressionist themes. »
Ilaamen Pelshaw is a Guatemalan painter based in the United States whose work has been featured in solo and group shows nationally. Growing up with a grandfather who was an artist and muralist, Pelshaw became interested in art herself and developed a practice centered around positivity and warmth. Mostly working in acrylic on canvas, her work is always colorful and illustration based, whether through quirky animal portraits or paintings of Latin American culture and crafts.
