The group of figures was created live from a dance movement of a dancing model. The figures merge into and with each other and thus become a coherent group of figures that pick up on a dynamic of movement and suggest the dance. It is painted over with oil in order to work out the figures in a three-dimensional manner. Nevertheless, you can still see the pencil of the original sketch from 2012 underneath. It therefore appears light and more like a… preliminary study for a later picture.

Ilona Ottenbreit is a German painter, sculptor and draftsman who has exhibited extensively in both solo and group events in Germany and the United Kingdom. Her works examine rhythm and movement, as it is the 'cause of our lives'. Ottenbreit's sculptures portray groups of people in movement, representing a collective connection, or oneness. She begins her process by sketching and examining motion, following the dancer with lines and recording what she can intuitively grasp.
