About this artwork
The model for this head was an Italian roommate from my student days in Milan. His particularly distinctive features strongly inspired this expression. It was created in clay in 2002 and cast in bronze in 2019, at which time it was painted for the first time.

« Art touches our soul and tries to grasp the truth. »
Ilona Ottenbreit is a German painter, sculptor and draftsman who has exhibited extensively in both solo and group events in Germany and the United Kingdom. Her works examine rhythm and movement, as it is the 'cause of our lives'. Ottenbreit's sculptures portray groups of people in movement, representing a collective connection, or oneness. She begins her process by sketching and examining motion, following the dancer with lines and recording what she can intuitively grasp.
