About this artwork
The artist takes a portrait of a person as the beginning of the painting process. While painting, they keep changing their heads by rhythmically placing the colors. She continually reassembles the head and disassembles it again until it comes to a state where it almost dissolves. This process of constant change is a nod to our ever-changing consciousness. Ilona Ottenbreit is a German painter, sculptor and draftsman who has exhibited extensively in both solo and group events in Germany and the United Kingdom. Her works examine rhythm and movement, as it is the 'cause of our lives'. Ottenbreit's sculptures portray groups of people in movement, representing a collective connection, or oneness. She begins her process by sketching and examining motion, following the dancer with lines and recording what she can intuitively grasp.
