About this artwork
Based on an initial sketch or portrait, I design the architecture of a head, only to immediately question it. Through the rhythmic application of paint, the face is reborn in a constant process of construction and disintegration. With each brushstroke, the solid structure loses its grip and increasingly dissolves into pure painting.

Ilona Ottenbreit is a German painter, sculptor and draftsman who has exhibited extensively in both solo and group events in Germany and the United Kingdom. Her works examine rhythm and movement, as it is the 'cause of our lives'. Ottenbreit's sculptures portray groups of people in movement, representing a collective connection, or oneness. She begins her process by sketching and examining motion, following the dancer with lines and recording what she can intuitively grasp.
