About this artwork
The painting "Hope" is, for me, a symbol of the human need for peace and freedom – even in the face of war and threat. In the mixed technique of acrylic and colored sand, resistance materializes: the lips formed from sand represent a conscious silence, a refusal to participate. This silence becomes the sand in the gears of a dehumanizing system.
At the center, I depict a Russian primordial mother in the form of a matryoshka doll, flanked by female… faces as symbols of the Church. The crooked crosses indicate that the peaceful message is being replaced by nationalism and false patriotism – the war against Ukraine is thus glorified as something sacred.
The faces depicted above symbolize suffering souls. From them rises a bird as a sign of peace. It carries my hope: that peace will return to Russia, that the Russian soul will be reawakened, and that humanity will be preserved.
