About this artwork
River is a fragment of a woman, a part that refers to the whole, to a whole woman.
For the realization I used a shapeless block of marble recovered from a river in the Apuan quarries, the colors of this marble and the surface consumed by the water were perfect for this work: after making the shape of the breast I recreated the smooth surface from the water.

Irene Giannaccini is an experienced sculptor based in Italy whose works have been exhibited nationally, as well as in France and Norway. Inspired by the texts of feminist philosphers such as Simone de Beavoir and Germaine Greer, she represents women through the female form in search for "her liberation". Giannaccini employs varying techniques from ancient to contemporary and favors materials such as marble, wood, bronze, and terra cotta.
