About this artwork
"Ten Seconds to Destruction #3" is a tableau of impending doom cloaked in unsettling elegance. A man, sharply dressed yet grounded by vibrant socks, sits, his turmoil of expressions. Opposite him, a cartoon dog, tuxedoed and martini in hand, exudes an uncanny nonchalance. This absurd juxtaposition of human and canine, formal wear and potential catastrophe, creates a jarring dissonance. The bright socks against the painting's dark undertones hint… at a hidden personality or a desperate attempt at normalcy. The black briefcase, a symbol of business or secrets, adds to the mystery. The martini, usually a symbol of sophistication, here feels like a morbid toast to oblivion. The man's expression is enigmatic, his fate uncertain. The dog's direct gaze at the viewer breaks the fourth wall, implicating us in the countdown. Is the destruction external or internal? The painting is a masterclass in ambiguity, leaving us suspended in a world seconds from collapse.
« For me art is about taking my personal experiences, thoughts and interior monologues and creating visual experiences that in turn will open up a new world of imagination and experience for the viewer. »
Jack Avetisyan is an Armenian-American artist whose paintings display various distinctive identities. His style oscillates between cartoons and abstract compositions, often combining the two into a single piece. His subjects are business people, worldly young adults, old-school sophisticates, who are typically self-satisfied and reeking of financial and social success. His characters occupy an unruly yet elegant a world of drips, darting lines, and swaths of paint.
