About this artwork
The work presents itself as a material high relief dominated by earthy and ferruginous tones, in which the wood – treated and engraved – evokes the excavated earth, corroded by time.
The surface is crisscrossed by a network of orthogonal and irregular paths, like archaeological tracks or primordial urban maps, which emerge and sink, creating a strong spatial depth.
The varying thicknesses create a symbolic labyrinth, a sequence of interrupted paths,… thresholds, and passages that seem to allude to a language yet to be deciphered. At the center, a small, chromatically distinct element acts as a nucleus or seal, the visual and conceptual fulcrum of the entire composition.
The work evokes an archaic and mysterious symbolism, suspended between maps, writing, and ritual architecture: it does not indicate a single path, but invites a slow, almost meditative reading, where the act of digging becomes an act of knowledge and memory.
Jacopo Berlendis, architect and painter, explores the fusion between design and art by cultivating natural and transformative themes. He uses earth and vegetation, modeling them in three-dimensional works which with acrylics and pigments interpret landscapes animated by a powerful physicality. His creations evoke a feeling of regeneration, revealing underground worlds of sublime material metamorphosis.
