About this artwork
Original charcoal drawing on paper by James Shipton
My works are heavily influenced by the art work of Degas and Gustav Klimt.
My desire is to capture the human form, whilst portraying human isolation. I achieve this through a process of capturing reality through life drawing using charcoal sketches, breaking it down to deliver an impression of the human form, whilst capturing the psychological complexity of the human nature through the portrayal… of human isolation.
Certificate of authenticity included.

« I believe that true art is not about excess. It is about essential values, built in layers of texture and light. »
James Shipton is an emerging British painter whose former training in medical science affords him an interest and understanding of human anatomy, something he harnesses to infuse in his artistic work. Heavily influenced by the styles of Degas, Schiele and Gustav Klimt, he composes paintings and drawings that seek to capture the beauty of the female form, as well as the inherently isolated human form.
