About this artwork
This is a sketch I had saved for quit some time and finally had the time and resources to make. This is the first oval piece I have made and it was a pleasure to work with that shape. This is the first time I have worked with gold leaf and Japanese Brown together, the richness and contrast are unmatched, even in low light situations, I'm surprised how much reflection the gold leaf gives off even at night.

Jason Rhinevault primarily works with negative spaces and depth in his pieces. The American sculptor offsets some of his compositions from the back mounting plate, by as much as an inch, creating a visual illusion. The use of negative space and depth gives the viewer several aspects to consider. Rhinevault is drawn to metal, as a medium, for its strength and organic qualities. He considers the patina application as important as the welding process.
