About this artwork
Born in the heart of New York, this bridge became, from its inception, a symbol of progress, engineering, and human connection. Spanning the East River, it has witnessed the city's transformation, the rise of skyscrapers, and the multiplication of generations crossing it daily. Painting it is not merely portraying an iconic structure, but engaging with the very history of a metropolis that never stops. However, while the steel withstands decades… and the city reinvents itself century after century, an inevitable question arises: what will last longer, the bridge or the painting that interprets it? Perhaps the artwork will not compete with the architecture in time, but it will certainly endure in memory; because when the metal rusts and the city changes its face, the art will still hold intact the moment when sunset embraced New York.
Javier Parra works with oil on canvas and initially trained in classical realist art workshops, returning to painting in 2017 with a contemporary exploration. He masters the palette knife and the alla prima technique, fusing natural and architectural landscapes in large formats, where texture and materiality intensify the visual experience. His works convey emotions of spirituality, love, and a deep connection with the environment, inviting the viewer to immerse themselves in the vibrant energy of light and the horizon.
