About this artwork
I have been questioning the whole land and ownership issue. How wars have been and continue to be fought about who should live where and who should go. As a citizen of the United States of America, I live on land that we as a nation are acknowledging that we are living on Native Land. Do we have the right to be there? I live on land that most definitely belonged to the Mohican, now Stockbridge-Munsee Band of Mohican Indians. There are Memorial mounds… on my property. And what does that mean, "my property"? We can only pass through this lifetime for a short while, what are we leaving for generations to come? The Indigenous Peoples cared for the land I live on, they made sure that in the thousands of years they lived here, that the right plants that would nourish them, survived. They cared for their waterways. They called every living thing, family. We have a lot to learn. We have choices, we can open the window and see the daylight or we can block out the light. #meditateonthis #reflect
