About this artwork
Scene from the port of Saint-Nazaire, on the Atlantic Ocean: The tugboat "Croisic" (named after the charming Breton port which is also a small town of character) goes to meet the container ship CMA-CGM 'Fort St Louis' to help it "avoid", that is to say turn around in the estuary despite the current and the tide, in order to prepare for its departure.
I chose a slightly misty atmosphere, typical of ports, caressed by a soft light that illuminates… the superstructures and the foam of the tugboat's wake, and which opposes the power of the two ships: the volume and geometry of the container ship, and the engines and the bow of the tugboat which can single-handedly push the large ship despite the current.
I want to share what makes ports so fascinatingly attractive: this mix of incessant activity and the ever-changing light of the sky and sea, this openness to nature and travel.
« The alchemy of the light of the sky and water, the infinite variety of their combined reflections are the basis of the emotions that I invite you to share. »
