As early as 1955, Jean Criton's work was exhibited by the dealer Paul Antonini on Rue de Miromesnil. In 1961, his discovery of Francis Bacon led him to return to figuration and the human figure for a while. That same year, he was invited by Pierre Restany to participate in the second Paris Biennale… with Martial Raysse, and two years later, he was the prizewinner.
Jean Criton's work is powerful, inspired, and, above all, constantly renewed. A great draughtsman, the artist also uses acrylic, charcoal, ink, gouache, and even eraser with great ease.
