About this artwork
This painting is inspired by going inward, meditation, self understanding and being centered.
"Centered" is a painting of the mind. One side is chaotic and uncontrolable, representing the feeling of being nervous, stressed, depressed, angry, sad, anxious, guilty,... This is the bottom part of the painting with elephants in chaos and monkeys (monkey mind = restless mind). The white elephant on the top symbolizes mental strenght, the mind that is… clear and focused. The golden center on which the white elephant stands symbolises the practice of self-centering and focusing the mind.
On our consciousness relies our mental strength - on the glob stands the white elephant, the controlled mind, the gift of humankind, our greatest tool.

Through her paintings, Jelena Petkovic wants to convey the concept of one soul, one piece of a whole, as well as show the beauty of our collective uniqueness. In the hopes of harmony, tolerance, and acceptance, Petkovic's 'Beauty of Us' series celebrates international beauty through portraits of women, symbolizing pieces of the divine. She creates using oils as they provide her with a full spectrum of colors that are always ‘surprising and stimulating’ to work with.
