About this artwork
This painting is a small tribute to the great Valencian painter Joaquín Sorolla, highlighting aspects of his work that have been overlooked by critics. Thus, the painting chosen for viewing by a couple is a sketch from life, in which Sorolla has chosen concise, well-impregnated brushstrokes to achieve maximum contrast, placing the blue on top of the orange siennas, once they have dried.
At the same time, one can appreciate the conceptual and technical… difference between the luminist master and the author of this painting, who uses strong impasto to the light colors and renders the dark ones almost like a watercolor, while Sorolla does it the other way around here.
We can see the immense white space on the left. Jesús Manuel has signed it here, although he usually does so on the back, to signify the importance of this white space.
It belongs to the series The White Line, whose monographic exhibition can be seen at the Atarazanas de Valencia until 06/29/2025.
Careful packaging.
« I'm like an archaeologist looking for clay objects and finding gold beads from a necklace that must have belonged to a queen. »
Jesús Manuel Moreno is a Spanish artist whose works have been widely exhibited nationally, as well as in the United Kingdom, Germany, Italy, the United States, Greece, and Portugal. His art translates the "void and loneliness" of the contemporary human being. Most of his figurative compositions feature white backgrounds, which symbolize the absence of relationships between people. Moreno's expressive pieces are created using oils on canvas, wood, or linen.
