About this artwork
This body of work emerged through my ongoing exploration of abstraction using the camera. From past work, I was aware that long exposures can render subjects in an abstract way. In this series, I approached the work with the assumption that the final image would be completed through digital processing, and carried out the shooting in an improvised manner. This allowed me to work without needing to fix the composition at the moment of capture.
While… adjusting and composing the images through digital processing, I found that some of the photographs of plum blossoms and branches appeared reminiscent of ink paintings, while others resembled abstract forms drawn with a brush. In addition, by layering multiple images of cherry branches, I constructed several fully abstract pieces. These were then developed into finished works and printed on Washi(Japanese traditional paper).
Jiro Hiraike is working on contemporary/conceptual art by using camera.
Generally speaking, art is expression on space, light and time. Thinking of the camera as a machine that manipulates time, he is working on creation. From a conceptual standpoint, the philosophy of emptiness of Buddhism is the origin of his creation. His works are primarily exploring the relationship between time and perception.
He has history of being selected in various competitions that is IPA, TIFA, FAPA and Px3.
