This painting tells the story of Manny and his horse Ciscero as they find their way back home - both figuratively and literally. Early that morning, headed to the now abandoned family homestead of his grandparents, Manny saddled up his horse Ciscero for the long trek through the roads of the high desert. Ciscero seemed to know his way better than Manny as they wound up the twisted trails of the desert. There is a longer story here. Suffice it… stay, not all treasures can be picked up and held by the hand. Some are held in the heart
I created this piece with delicate watercolors to capture the quiet resilience of life in a sunbaked landscape. The soft, impressionistic strokes evoke warmth and simplicity, inviting you to feel the timeless connection between nature and shelter. This artwork brings calm, grounded energy to your space, reminding you that beauty thrives even in the humblest settings.
Joanne Joki is a painter and sculptor with formal training in art and extensive study under master artists, drawing deeply from her upbringing as a non-Native on an Indian Reservation and lifelong passion for visual and poetic expression. She works in watercolors, pastels, charcoal, and clay, weaving together expressive portraiture and emotionally charged realism with intimate storytelling and atmospheric depth. Her works are deeply reflective, creating visual poems that celebrate personal history and universal emotion, inviting viewers into a world where love, loss, and resilience resonate vibrantly and honestly.
Note: I have made a slight price adjustment on some of your favorite watercolor paintings. I am doing this in an effort to create a more consistent pricing model in my portfolio and to create a broader accessibility to my clients. I appreciate your continuing to enjoy my work, and if you haven't yet, please follow me so that you do not miss any of the new editions.
