Youssouf is a storyteller and poet; from his earliest childhood, he loved telling stories. One day, he left his native Africa to travel to Europe in search of medieval treasures. Throughout his long journey, he was awestruck by the genius of the cathedral builders, stonemasons, glassmakers, sculptors, and carpenters, constructing naves, chapels, rose windows, pointed arches, and domes. Upon returning home, he devoted the rest of his life to recounting… his European adventure, his great discoveries, the artisans' expertise, the secrets of the golden ratio, and the captivating beauty of stained glass windows—for yes, as you know, stained glass windows tell stories… and he remembered them all.
Mixed media, hand-blown silver-plated metal sheets, automotive UV-resistant varnish. Bas-relief sculpture in polyurethane foam and fiberglass, Swarovski crystal piercing. Frame layered and raised on stilts.
Jocelyn Flanders, alias Djoce, is a French visual artist, painter, sculptor, engraver; he lives and works in the Northeast of France. A cabinetmaker by trade, he taught himself airbrush painting in the 1980s and began a career in custom vehicle painting as a professional painter in 2000. He honed his skills in airbrush trigger control, pinstriping, applying metal foil, and engraving on motorcycle tanks and other surfaces. Throughout his 40 years of experimentation, a little voice inside whispered to him to take the plunge; in 2021, he embarked on a new adventure: creating works of art, with an idea that seemed obvious to him: to transpose the know-how of customization into the world of art. His favorite subject is stained glass. And an ambitious challenge: to create light and translucency on an opaque surface.
