About this artwork
Sometimes sculptures start out with being on thing, but they turn out being another.
With this sculpture my intension was to create a ballet dancer in Carrara marble. It began with a rectangular shaped stone and the process was proceeding as planned. The shape and form began to emerge out of the stone. As I began to carve the details an important part of the sculpture broke off: the feet. This put the sculpture on hold for ten years.
After that period… was over, I revisited the sculpture and I decided to make a torso instead of the whole figure and that was how “At the Ballet” was reborn.
