John Hughley is a is an American multidisciplinary fine artist and former art professor with advanced degrees in Art Education. Early in his career Hughley created inked-line illustrations and roadside sign graphics for the Raleigh, NC Capital City Trail. Moving on from illustration and graphics he began to create abstract watermedia paintings. These paintings were exhibited in curared exhibitions at museums and galleries in many major cities including New York, Chicago, and Los Angeles. Later he transitioned from watermedia works to digital art. His digital works explore the intersection of art and technology as much as they explore his African-American and African heritage and he has exhibited his watermedia works and digital art at various university art museums. The watermedia works serve as a foundation for his digital art and evidence of his experience with inked-line illustrations and roadside sign graphics. His use of vivid colors and geometric shapes reflects his art research.
