About this artwork
I have always had a particular soft spot for the Minotaur, a tragic, but
powerful figure from Greek mythology. Born as half human, half bull. And not even
through a metamorphosis or as a result of hubris, or through his own fault. No, *he* became
simply born that way, because it pleased the god Poseidon, as punishment for king
Minos of Crete. He was subsequently locked up in solitude in the Labyrinth, a
An ingenious maze, from which no living… creature could escape. Simply
because King Minos wanted to get rid of him, but did not dare to kill him. He
had not asked to be fed with Athenian human flesh either. But
He therefore had to die. So be it, the Athenian hero Theseus.

But what would have happened if he had escaped unscathed? Would he have been able to
