About this artwork
I approach this series as an exploration of the boundary between surface and immersion, not only physically but also perceptually. Water appears as a space of transition: it is not merely a medium, but a filter that transforms light, body, and identity.
In these works, I start from the same premise—the human figure suspended underwater—to develop variations on the relationship between gravity and buoyancy. In the first piece, the figure is silhouetted… against the light, almost absorbed by the intensity of the surface. I am interested in this condition of silhouette, where the body loses detail and becomes a sign, a minimal presence against a field of color that envelops it.
Jon Jauregui is a visual artist and painter with a deep connection to the sea, nature, and the direct experience of travel; his training and life are reflected in his works. He uses oil, watercolor, and mixed media, fusing realist, impressionist, and surrealist styles, and reinterpreting the great masters. His paintings envelop us in symbolic and narrative atmospheres that seek to awaken intense emotions, curiosity, and reflection, making each work an emotional and visual journey where everyday beauty and history come alive.
