About this artwork
This painting was exhausting to complete. I mean it really took it out of me over a long period as I battled subject with balance, color harmony and the paint itself. My technique is wet on wet painting, meaning I do not let the any single layer dry before applying overlayers or drawing into the paint. Its quite thrilling to do and has taken me many years to obtain control and comfortability painting this way. However, adding an initial base of…
black to the mix created a new dynamic of application, and taught me a valuable lesson in patience and humility to say the least. It all worked itself out over a period of weeks and the end result is exciting! I think I'll open a great bottle of red, light a cigar and stare at it for a while.
This work is based on photos taken this past summer at my place of peace, Sans Souci on Lake Huron and was completed 01/10/21.
