About this artwork
This painting was created in 2017 as a small departure to his other expressionistic portrait paintings. With this he created two different paintings of the same subject; one on stretched canvas, the other on unstretched canvas. The idea was to cut the two paintings up in order to create one final composition. This was a technique he originally tried in the mid-2000's while experimenting with different techniques and approaches.

At the age of 15, on a trip to the Art Institute of Chicago with his parents, Jonathan Mcafee was stopped in his tracks by Warhol's 'Mao,' and definitely marked the start of his artistic pursuits. Today, Mcafee is busy composing expressive portraits centred on the theme of memory.
