What Refuses to Remain is part of my Transition States series and continues my research within Chromanarrativism, the artistic language I have developed to explore the relationship between color, structure, and transformation.
In this work, an altered garment gradually leaves the pictorial space while visible forces attempt to return it. Steel wires, deformed nails, and metallic elements generate opposing tensions that transform the object into… a territory of resistance and displacement.
Silver symbolizes an appearance of control and stability. Magenta emerges as an emotional imprint that pierces the surface and reveals the hidden tensions beneath.
The work is situated at the moment when something ceases to belong to the system that contained it, but has not yet managed to completely break free from it. Every deformation and every point of tension speaks to the fragility of the structures that sustain our identity and our relationships.
Born in Austria in 1971, JOWU transformed his life into a work of art. After restoring an ancient castle, he found refuge and truth in painting. A self-taught artist, he developed Chromanarrativism: a pictorial practice where color ceases to be merely decorative and becomes a vehicle for conveying states of being, tension, and transformation.
