"Perhaps lightness sometimes means exactly this: not that nothing is complicated, but that you stop fighting and surrender to what is there."
Ease is light and open, as if the colors had almost found each other by themselves. Bright, translucent layers of rose, violet, green, and light blue overlap; lines intersect, emerge, and dissolve again into the pictorial space.
This lightness, however, wasn't there from the beginning. I altered the image… several times, layering, blurring, and rearranging shapes. Only when I stopped searching for a specific solution did the tension dissipate, and the image almost spontaneously found its current form.
The traces of this process are still visible: nothing is completely smoothed out or untangled, and yet everything has found its place.

Judith Riemer is a German abstract artist whose atmospheric works emerge from the interplay of movement and stillness. Influenced by her previous work as an interior designer, she explores the effects of atmosphere, light, and visual tranquility within a space.
After studying interior design, she continuously developed her artistic practice as a freelance painter. Her works are predominantly oil on canvas. Gestures, traces, layering, and deliberate reduction characterize her working process and create pictorial spaces of quiet tension and atmospheric depth.
Transitions are central to her work – moments of change, of pausing, and of becoming open. Light, rhythm, and reduced color palettes create works that do not seek to explain or capture, but rather to open space for individual perception.
