About this artwork
Julia Hacker's abstract painting is a testament to the raw emotional power and mark-making techniques of the Abstract Expressionist movement. Her painting embodies soft power, seducing viewers with their unexpected textural floral forms, warm yellows, pinks, and oranges, creating an illusion of a velvety texture. Her work features a stunning naturalistic biome full of organic forms reminiscent of plants and flowers, enticing viewers to enter a domain…
as familiar as it is strange.
Julia Hacker's use of mark-making and colour creates a seductive visual language. She invites viewers to explore the depths of their emotions and perceptions, creating a space where they can find meaning and interpretation of the natural forms in her paintings. Her oversized canvas offers an immersive experience for anyone who appreciates the beauty of abstract art.
What sets Julia Hacker's work apart is her feminine touch reflected in her paintings' unpredictability and mood fluctuations.

« The process of creating a series of artworks is a simple meditation on life and spirituality. »
Julia Hacker is a Toronto-based contemporary painter creating vibrant, often large-scale works rooted in nature-inspired expressionism. Born in Minsk, Belarus, she studied art and design at Belarusian State University, earning a Master’s degree in Fashion Design before immigrating to Canada in 1990 and establishing her studio practice in Toronto. Her background in fashion continues to inform her sensitivity to colour, rhythm, pattern, and composition. Drawing from memory and imagination, Hacker builds layered paintings through gestural brushwork, expressive drawing, and intuitive relationships between colour and form. Her work has been exhibited across North America and presented at major art fairs. She is an elected member of the Society of Canadian Artists, a member of the Federation of Canadian Artists, and is represented by ADC Fine Art and GalleryOne. Her paintings are held in private and corporate collections internationally.
