About this artwork
In the "Facets" collection, sensual female faces appear on a cool concrete canvas.
Fragments hide parts of the beauties and reveal something about the emotional life of the painted portrait. In the early works, the eyes of the painted people are still mysteriously closed. The face is covered schematically, and symbolizes the unconscious patterns that we develop in the course of life and do not want to recognize even for ourselves. Only in the later… portraits, characterized by the open eyes, are learned patterns broken, partially dissolved and reformatted. The artist calls for new impulses to be set, to interpret situations more freely, in order to go through life openly with all senses.
The concrete screen was made manually in a mold using a special casting process. The work weighs about 10 kg.

« It is the cool distance and the inaccessibility that the concrete radiates and inspires me again and again. »
Julia Schröder is an artist based in Germany whose paintings have been exhibited nationally.
Contrasts, contradictions and human emotional worlds run through the heart of her works. In addition, she cites the interplay of the motifs and the surface structure of concrete as creating a very special artificial language for her. Schröder's concrete pieces are made with molds and a distinctive casting process.
