About this artwork
A helix (from the Greek word for "twisting" or "spiral") is a three-dimensional curve that turns evenly around a central axis. Ivy (Hedera helix), a fast-growing, evergreen climbing vine known for its glossy, lobed leaves. It uses tiny aerial roots to cling to surfaces, allowing it to climb up house walls, brickwork, and trees. Because it is highly adaptable, it stays green all winter long.
Ivy is my favourite plant so this painting is an abstract… meditation on it. Although beautiful, strong and nurturing to birds in the winter, it's also strangulating. A balance has to be upheld just like anything in nature. A good thing can turn bad if not held in check.

Kale Hatfield works with painting and drawing, bringing with him an exceptional background as a goldsmith and visual communicator, inspired by the aesthetics of Kubrick. His technique combines vibrant acrylics, gouache, metallic pigments, and watercolors into kaleidoscopic, abstract compositions where geometric patterns, barcodes, and digital symbols merge—a dialogue between the old and new worlds. His works are profound, mystical, and evoke a sense of longing, alienation, and enigmatic beauty.
