About this artwork
looking out from the Saigon Skydeck over a segment of District 1, it is hard not to feel the buzz of life that energises Ho Chi Minh City. modest in scale when compared to other major Asian metropolises, the warmth of its inhabitants stands toweringly tall and is perhaps reflected in the homely aesthetic that characterises its sprawling streets.

a variation on my series, ‘Light Written’, this photo set is a meditation on how collections of colourful… dots cohere into comprehensible images. drawing on the work of Pointillists such as Seurat and Signac, I have broken down my photographs into coloured, two-dimensional points to make artfully plain some of the mechanics behind the mystery of light.

Based in Tokyo, Kambani Ramano is a photographic artist in awe of the human spirit and of the natural world. He draws inspiration from the ukiyo-e print masters of Edo Japan, the magical realists of literary fiction, and the many significant movements and figures that Impressionism brought forth. Sitting at the threshold of the photograph and the painterly arts, his work is an ongoing exploration of the art of photography, and of photography as art.
