Dream Series: There are moments in life when our dreams feel out of reach-caged by fear, loss, or the weight of our own insecurities. The Dream series was born from my own journey through darkness and light: surviving childhood trauma, navigating the uncertainty of immigration, facing heartbreak, and learning to live with loss and change. Each painting in this series is a chapter in the universal story of becoming- moving from fear and self-doubt…
to courage, self acceptance, and the relentless pursuit of hope.
"Caged Dreams" captures the ache of wanting more, yet feeling trapped by fear of rejection and not belonging.
"Dream Catcher" is the moment of gathering strength, daring to believe in the possibility, and beginning to reach for what once felt possible.
"Dream Maker" celebrates the transformation-emerging from the cocoon, unapologetic and whole, carrying the scars and wisdom of the journey.
Even in our most vulnerable moments, we are capable of growth healing, and flight.

Karen Coates is an experienced artist based in the United States whose paintings have been exhibited nationally and in Italy. Coates refers to her multi-layered technique as "StrataLIfe", as it investigates the vast layers of experiences that we carry around.
