I had a lot of unused, old buttons and decided to experiment with them to make a fine art work. I had to work with a limited palette of natural pink, brown, and navy buttons. I thought about treating each small object like a pixel or a tessera, much like in classical mosaic work. The arrangement of the buttons was meticulous; they were adhered to cotton muslin stretched over a wooden panel.
The result is a mosaic-like piece that emphasises texture… over colour, creating an intricate pattern that seems both organic and highly structured. It was a study in seeing potential beauty in the mundane and assembling those fragments into a coherent, complex whole.
Kasia Turajczyk, a flexible visual artist, dives deep into various mediums, including tempera, acrylics, oil paints, watercolour and even ink. Utilising a mutable approach, she flits between fantastic realities and abstract imaginings, blending elements of surrealism and fantasy into a playful yet complex aesthetic. Turajczyk's works are profound introspections and insightful commentaries on the human condition within her unique alternate realities."My practice is defined by a rigorous, interdisciplinary dialogue between the analytical and the visceral. Holding a Master’s in Art and a postdoctoral degree in Economics and Business, I approach the canvas not merely as a surface for expression, but as a site of intellectual and harmonic synthesis. My work is a visual manifestation of my life as a polymath—a speaker of six languages and a lifelong student of literature, history, and philosophy.
