About this artwork
The title of this work is "Unda – The Wave." I painted it by the sea, overlooking the Baltic Sea. The blue and turquoise tones, white, gray, and gold perfectly capture this feeling in the painting. The golden border resembles a porthole and simultaneously reminds me of the warm, slightly opulent details found in the hold of old ships.
I'm working here with acrylic paint on a wooden surface. The paint is partially raised on the surface, the dots… are visible and give the picture depth.
It's a mandala, but not a strictly symmetrical one. The basic structure provides support, while at the same time the forms dissolve in places and move like waves. The white dots sit like tiny crests of foam directly on these waves. In some places, the colors blend spontaneously during the painting process – this remains visible and is part of the artwork for me.
There is no up or down. This also applies to the compass rose. You can rotate the image however you like – it remains consistent within itself.
Kathrin Wöhler is a self-taught painter working with acrylics on wood, canvas, and various recycled materials, and also brings experience as a journalist. She favors geometric-abstract circular formats, uses the dotting technique, employs clear lines, and combines symmetry with playfully dissolved structures. Her works radiate tranquility, depth, and a unique tactile quality, inviting touch and conveying a sense of contentment and meditative concentration.
