About this artwork
This is a photo of the artist in Arles in her early 20’s. A few years after studying in Paris for a semester, she reunited with her best friend, who she had met on the program, for a wonderful adventure through the south of France. She remembers being shocked that the gnarled deformed trees of Vincent Van Gogh’s paintings actually looked exactly the same in person. She is still waiting to go back. The artist particularly loves the heat of this photo,…
the bleached whites and burning oranges.

« I do not see my many creative pursuits as disjointed. They are all parts of the mosaic that has given me a wonderful life in the arts. »
Kathy Halper is an American artist whose paintings have been featured in several solo and group exhibitions in the United States. Drawn to artistic styles that "eschew complex interpretation", her works are a direct response to the chaos in the world. Halper gravitates towards story-telling in her artistic practice and bases her composiitons on personal experiences or an "internal connection". She creates using oils on canvas.
