About this artwork
My guitar was ready all day in the stand, but I couldn't break free from the aspiring spoonbills. Birds have never occupied me that much in the past, but suddenly there is a fascination for their diversity. Every night I hear the geese coming over and every morning the gulls are noisy. When I am on my bike I hear the little birds squeak and whistle. The French composer and organist Olivier Messiaen has devoted an entire ouvre to the sounds of the… birds. For me it is the combination of movement, shape and sound that I leave my guitar for. Spoonbills convey a sense of timelessness. Follow them, that brief moment they pass by. And keep following them during the long trip they will make to Africa. That gives space.
