About this artwork
Dragonflies in grass. This piece took approximately a two and a half months to complete. Shapes were designed, die cut and cut by hand. Rice paper was sculpted in relief to suggest grass. Intricate negative space was painted to block light when piece is lit from behind the canvas with commercial grade copper wire LED lights. because in addition to a large amount of broken glass bits from local glassblowers, Venetian glass was also included. Bamboo pieces were individually cut, attached, and painted to surround the paper elements. Additional materials used: acrylic paint, rice paper, bristol board, glass tiles. Paper used is double varnished, and acid free to prevent yellowing over time. Edges or canvas are painted and varnished, no frame needed.
