About this artwork
In this painting, I wanted to capture the fragile moment of human vulnerability and quiet solitude. This lonely figure, leaning over a table with a drink, is a universal reflection of all of us when we seek a temporary escape or search for answers in the dark.
I used rich, heavily textured layers of paint and an atmospheric, moody color palette to blend the character's physical surroundings with his inner psychological landscape. For me, the bottles… resting on the table and on the floor are far from mere everyday objects; instead, they function as silent companions in a moment of deep, inner contemplation. Furthermore, the blurred silhouettes of the bottles in the background feel like fleeting images of friends fading away, echoing the painful reality of people drifting out of one's life.

Larisa Brovdi is a Ukrainian painter and tapestry artist educated at the Uzhhorod College of Applied Arts, whose career is deeply rooted in the Transcarpathian School of Painting. She works in lyrical symbolism, neo-primitivism, and decorative painting, masterfully blending bold impasto textures with exquisite color harmonies.
Alongside her husband Ivan Brovdi, she represented Ukrainian art during a major National Exhibition tour across the USA (Washington, New York, San Francisco, LA). Following this, her tapestries were exhibited at the Grand Palais in Paris, the Palais des Beaux-Arts in Brussels, and the Kunsthalle in Budapest.
As a celebrated master, she has held dozens of solo exhibitions across Ukraine and Europe, including retrospectives in Uzhhorod, Mukachevo, Kyiv, and projects in Hungary. Her work radiates serenity, dignity, and spiritual stillness.
