About this artwork
This work is a reflection on the intimacy of each artist's inner stage. The bird symbolizes the longed for freedom, counteracting the confinement of the stage. The artist sought to instill hope and a quiet resilience, hoping to bring these energies into every space where art resides.
Len Vernaghi painted, in the foreground, a still dancer, with her lips parted. Between the lips and the voice there is silence, which is enough to shift the observer's… attention to the blue canary that the young dancer holds in her hands. In the background, there is a cage. The blue and yellow canaries came out of that cage. The yellow canary is perched on the cage, while inside the cage there is a moving dancer. The painting and the cage are a metaphor, an elegy of the interior stage of contemporary people. The work of art invites us to reflect on freedom.
