About this artwork
The chessboard has always been a simulacrum of a battlefield, so why not represent the pieces as if they were soldiers in armor?
From this idea was born "steel strategy," a chessboard made entirely of stainless steel, to be used to add a touch of art to a room, but also to compete in real games.
The black parts of the board are laser-engraved, and the black pieces are hot-burnished; there are no paints, enamels, or any kind of perishable dyes.…
Each piece, except the towers which have an interlocking joint, is made from a single cut of sheet metal folded by hand, there is no welding or glue.
It is a unique piece, available immediately, but themed variations can be commissioned, for example with oriental or fantasy-themed armies. Depending on the complexity, the price may vary.

Leonardo Chiari works primarily with metal, and grew up among forges and steel, where he learned to shape the material from a young age. He employs a technique that blends craftsmanship, drawing, and mechanical technology, moving from freehand sketches to laser cutting, creating sculptures that combine functionality and sculptural presence. His works convey a vibrant tension between strength and fragility, inviting us to perceive each form as the fruit of an intense and authentic dialogue with the material itself.
