About this artwork
In "Son Flower," I explore the role that parents play in the landscape of a child’s life. This work is a visual meditation on the transfer of identity, light, and purpose from one generation to the next.
I have rendered the mother and father figures in a vibrant, saturated yellow the color of a sunflower in full bloom. They are the source of energy and the primary architects of their environment. They gaze inward toward their son, whose eyes are… replaced by sunflowers. By choosing to paint his flowers stark white, I am illustrating a specific moment of potential: the son is the vessel, yet to be filled.
The narrative here is one of nurturing through proximity. The white of the son’s flowers represents emptiness, waiting to absorb the golden hues of his parents' wisdom and love. Through this, I wanted to capture the invisible weight of influence how the very way a child sees the world is a color gifted to them by those who raised them.
Liban Finser is a Saudi-born contemporary artist exploring the intricate dimensions of human emotion. Working exclusively in 1-of-1 original abstracts, he translates visceral internal expressions into rhythmic compositions. His signature figurative style is directly shaped by his natural myopia; by choosing to see the world without corrective lenses, he produces raw, unique forms that prioritize emotional depth over clinical precision. Central to his practice is a commitment to mental health advocacy. Each painting serves as a visual journey containing "hidden stories" and life advice, aiming to spread positivity and prevent suicide. This philosophy ensures that every work offers a guiding narrative for the human condition. With a commercial registration in Dubai and works currently under curation in Los Angeles, London, and New York, Liban’s "Petals to Dust" collection is increasingly recognized by leading interior design firms for its abstraction in modern minimalist environments.
