About this artwork
In “Thresholds,” I explore the tension between openness and enclosure, movement and stillness. The composition is alive with contrasting zones of color: a luminous sweep of turquoise and emerald green on the right, fiery passages of red and fuchsia on the left, and vertical rectangles of amber orange that punctuate the scene like doors or windows. Broad, gestural strokes in white veil parts of the surface, suggesting erasure, concealment, or shifting… perspective.
The work’s layered brushwork—sometimes fluid, sometimes abrupt—creates a visual rhythm that feels both architectural and organic. The central area of dark tones functions almost like a dividing line, a passage between two realms, while the rectangular forms evoke the idea of entry points, portals, or transitions.
Emotionally, the palette carries a dual charge: the cooler blues and greens convey serenity and expansiveness, while the reds and oranges bring urgency, vitality, and confrontation.
I'm Liliana Georgeta Barna, a passionate painter inspired by the beauty of the world and deep inner emotions. My bold, abstract style uses vibrant colors and expressive forms to reflect personal experiences and introspection.
I am pleased to announce my participation in the group exhibition “At the Museum”, taking place from July 14 to August 9, 2025, at the Romanian Literature Museum.
I am also honored to take part in the collective exhibition organized at the Romanian Senate, held between November 12 and 30, 2025, an event presented by the Art Archive.
