About this artwork
The rose bushes in the front of my neighbour's garden are quite old and have survived many things - droughts, storms and floating ash from nearby bushfires are just the more recent. Their richly coloured blooms, heady scent and gloriously velvety texture continue to unfurl every year regardless of global pandemics. The flowers themselves also have hidden depths - they hide their secrets well.
Leaves, landscape and other blooms are implied, hinting… that this is part of something much larger, but the painting focusses on the inner secrets of the rose, still hidden within.

« There are moments when the wonder of something takes our breath away. I try to bring that feeling to my art because those moments are precious. Joy is necessary. »
Lisa Gaudron is an artist based in Australia whose paintings have been exhibited nationally. She cites the joy of discovery as being intrinsic to her artistic practice. Gaudron's hyper-realistic animal and botanical-themed compositions most often begin with many photographs of her subjects. She most often creates with acrylics in many layers on canvas and finishes each piece with varnish.
