About this artwork
In this work, I wanted to capture the pure tenderness of a hug, a moment suspended between two beings. The gold deployed around it symbolizes the warmth and inner light that these moments can offer. Each stroke and each touch of oil paint translates the intensity of a silent love, ready to radiate the space where it will be placed. The real gold leaves come from a small village. A tenth of a tael of gold worked in such a way as to produce nearly…
1,000 gold leaves? A feat achieved daily by the artisans of Kiêu Ky, the only village in Vietnam to still perpetuate the secrets of this traditional craft. I seek out these leaves with their incomparable reflections to create these miniatures and the women's faces.
