About this artwork

Luciana is interested in human soul, human mind. She wonders what is going on in the mind of people while they come across each other, while they go about their business but still have the feeling of not being alone. In these times of social distancing due to the virus it is interesting to explore the feelings that we have to be with other people even if we do not know them personally.

Luciana Mathioudakis is an Italian-Greek artist currently based in Brussels. She is an experienced artist who has spent more than two decades studying painting in various studios and workshops. While for the majority of her career Mathioudakis worked exclusively with oil and pastel paints, she recently switched to beeswax applied to panel, a system that dates back to ancient Greece. Her work explores how people orient themselves in various spaces, especially within crowds, as well as the broader theme of movement as a form of dialogue between people.
