About this artwork
The great Australian artist Mazie Turner was my painting teacher at university and she lent me her Atomic coffee maker for a week and said, “ draw this object over and over from every possible perspective and lighting situation, when you return it, we will discuss what makes it such a perfect design”.
I did as she instructed and we both agreed on a fundamental idea, that it fits perfectly inside an Egg shape. It’s genius.
This painting pays a tribute… and homage not only to this classic Italian design but also to her memory. And those colours, crimson red balanced with some cool greys and green, a dazzling display fit for any wall at such a comfy size.
Luke Hey is an accomplished Australian painter, trained at the University of Newcastle and Newcastle Art College, who has been creating professionally since 2003. His technique is a fusion of thick, impressionistic colors and the calculated structure of cubism, drawing on time-honored oil painting traditions. With compositions inspired by city life, nature, and vibrant cultural scenes, his work strives to evoke both dazzling harmony and a sense of mystery, inviting viewers to discover hidden layers over time. Once I finished art school and university I hit the ground running, being introduced and accepted into a commercial gallery and beginning a career of travels and exhibiting. Like many Australian artists I decided to live and work in Europe and am currently based in Prague, Czech Republic.
